A further 171 deaths - 100 men and 71 women - have been recorded in the past 24 hours due to the novel coronavirus, the Strategic Communication Group (GCS) announced on Thursday.
Minister sounds alarm as cases spike in 10 regions
Citing the latest data, Health Minister Vassilis Kikilias warned that there has been a spike in the number of coronavirus cases reported over the last week in Kalymnos, Kozani, Kilkis, West Attica, Evros, Thassos, Florina, Rodopi, Lesvos and Xanthi.

Random tests encouraged
There has been no let up in the effort by authorities to encourage members of the public to take part in the random testing scheme set up over the holiday season to establish a better understanding of the number of people infected with SARS-CoV-2.

As many as 4,637 new cases of people infected with SARS-CoV-2 have been recorded in the last 24 hours, following 24,242 national tests, the Strategic Communication Group (GCS) reports on Tuesday. These are cases that have not previously had a positive test, the GCS states. As of Tuesday, 623,066 cases of people infected with the novel coronavirus have been confirmed in Romania.
No mutated COVID-19 found in Turkey: Health minister
No specimens of the mutated novel coronavirus strain were found in Turkey in samples collected across the country, the nation's health minister announced on Dec. 26.
Fahrettin Koca said on Twitter that the strain was absent both in samples from PCR-positive cases who recently entered Turkey from affected countries nor in other samples collected in different parts of the country.

Greek health authorities on Friday announced 617 new cases of SARS-CoV-2 in the country, which brought the total number to 134,852.

These are cases that have not previously had a positive test, says GCS. So far, 608,561 cases of people infected with the novel coronavirus have been confirmed in Romania.
937 new coronavirus infections reported, 62 deaths
The National Organization for Public Health (EODY) reported 937 new SARS-CoV-2 infections on Wednesday, which drove the total number to 133,365.
Of these new cases, only five were reported at the country's entry points,
At the same time, 62 patients died from Covid-19, raising the total number of fatalities to 4,402. The median age of those who died was 79 years.
