An Outbreak of Bird Flu was discovered near the Bulgarian Town of Etropole

The Bulgarian Food Safety Agency has detected an outbreak of the disease Influenza (flu) in birds in a facility for breeding quails for eggs in the land of the town of Etropole in the Sofia region.

The affected farm consists of two sites, owned by one owner, with a closed cycle of quail hatching and rearing. Sampling was carried out after high bird mortality was found at the site.

Non-hibernating bears fed with special diet program

A special diet program has been made for 72 bears that did not hibernate in Türkiye's only bear shelter in the northwestern province of Bursa.

Some 72 bears at the Karacabey Ovakorusu Bear Shelter could not hibernate due to the unusual seasonal conditions. Apart from the food they find in the natural environment, the bears are fed specially by their caretakers to prepare for winter.

More than 200 bears culled in 2022

Slovenia has one the largest brown bear populations in Europe and it is not uncommon to spot one walking in the woods or even in settled areas. Like the wolf and the lynx, the brown bear is a protected species, but the population is managed by culling. Last year, 206 bears were culled.
