Total of 94.5 million passengers have gone through Türkiye's airports in the first six months of 2023, data from the General Directorate of State Airports Authority (DHMİ) have shown.

Türkiye's airports served more than 75 million passengers in the first six months of 2022, marking an 87.1 percent increase from a year ago.

Istanbul Airport was the busiest airport in Europe in May by traffic volume as it served a total of 5.7 million passengers, according to data from the Airports Council International (ACI).

London Heathrow, which welcomed 5.34 million travelers, ranked second, followed by Paris's Charles de Gaulle at 5.22 million passengers.

Turkey's airports served 57 million passengers in January-May, a strong 94.2 percent increase from a year ago.

A Turkish Airlines plane flying from Iran to Istanbul was diverted to Ankara on Feb. 25 at the Turkish Health Ministry's request, according to local media reports.

The plane, carrying 132 passengers, was flying from Tehran to Istanbul.

The plane has landed at Ankara's Esenboğa Airport.
