German ambassador frightened by attack on Hürriyet columnist

German Ambassador to Ankara Martin Erdmann said he was frightened with the assault on Hürriyet journalist Ahmet Hakan.

In a written statement on Nov. 2, the ambassador said he had confidence in the Turkish judiciary that the incident would be enlightened and perpetrators would be punished accordingly. 

The ambassador extended a get well message for Hakan.

Ankara's 'Aspendos' left to its fate

Two years after restoration of the world famous ancient Aspendos Theater with white marble sparked outrage in the country, a similar upset is seen in Ankara. 

According to daily Hürriyet, a 2,000 year-old ancient theater discovered during excavations in one of Ankara?s oldest neighborhoods, Ulus, was restored with white marble by the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality two years ago. 

12 killed as public bus rams into bus stop in Ankara

A total of 12 people have been killed after a public bus rammed into a bus stop in the Dikimevi neighborhood of Ankara, according to initial reports.

The public bus rammed into people waiting at the bus stop near the central Dikimevi metro station when the unidentified driver lost control of the wheel. 

Military prosecutor dismisses probe into surveillance of former Turkish colonel

A military prosecutor's office has dismissed an investigation - publicly known as the "Cosmic Room" investigation - against eight suspects related to surveillance of a former colonel between late 2008 and late 2009, saying the surveillance activity was lawfully conducted upon a verbal order by a former head of the Turkish General Staff.

Russia informed Turkey about airstrike in Syria

Russia has informed Turkey about the airstrike launched in Syria on Sept. 30, a Russian Embassy official has stated.

"Today we informed the Turkish authorities about the military operation," Russian Embassy spokesperson Igor Mityakov told the Hürriyet Daily News, adding that notification was made through the embassy in Ankara.
