Gov't appoints Ankara police chief after deadly terror attack

Following a five-month-long vacancy, the Turkish government has appointed a police chief for the capital city of Ankara to act as its principal director. Mahmut Karaaslan, who had been serving as the police chief in the eastern town of Van, has been appointed to Ankara, according to a decree issued in the Official Gazette early March 15.  

Australian ambassador narrowly escapes Ankara attack

Australian Ambassador to Turkey James Larsen was only meters away when a suicide car bomb exploded in the heart of the capital Ankara on March 13, and managed to escape the blast unscathed.

Larsen was with his 12-year-old daughter when the bomb exploded, driving her home from a horse riding lesson, Embassy officials told the Hürriyet Daily News on March 14.

Vucic offers condolences to Turkish prime minister

Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic has sent a telegram of condolences to Turkish counterpart Ahmet Davutoglu over a terrorist attack in Ankara.

“We have received with great sorrow and sympathy the news of the big explosion caused by a car bomb in the centre of Ankara which left dozens of people dead and many seriously injured," Vucic stated, and added:
