Investigation opened against former CHP deputy over charges of 'praising' Gülen network

The Antalya Chief Prosecutor's Office has started an investigation on a former Republican People's Party (CHP) deputy over charges of "praising the Fethullahist Terrorist Organization [FETÖ]/Parallel State Structure [PDY]."

The former CHPAntalya Deputy Gürkut Acar allegedly praised FETÖ/PDY in columns he wrote for a local newspaper.

Roman sarcophagus of Hercules returns home to Turkey

The Roman sarcophagus of Hercules, which was smuggled abroad some 50 years ago, has finally been returned to Turkey from Switzerland. 

The sarcophagus, which was found during illegal excavations in the ancient city of Perge in the southern province of Antalya, was delivered to Culture and Tourism Ministry officials in Geneva on Sept. 13. 

Nearly 8 million tourists visit Antalya in 2017 despite sharp decline in arrivals from Europe

Some 7.5 million tourists visited the Mediterranean resort of Antalya in the first eight months of the year despite a steady decrease in arrivals from 10 key European markets, data showed on Sept. 6. 

Just 6.4 million tourists visited Antalya over the whole of 2016, which was a tough year for the resort's tourism amid a diplomatic crisis with Russia. 

Russian tourist drowns in Turkish resort of Antalya

A Russian tourist drowned in the sea off the Kemer district of the Mediterranean resort of Antalya on Sept. 3.

The 63-year-old tourist, identified as Olga Salomakhina, reportedly went swimming at a beach of a hotel on the coast of the Tekirova neighborhood in the evening hours after having dinner, but locals observed her standing still in the sea a while later.

Russian tourist drowns in Turkish resort Alanya

A Russian tourist drowned in the sea off the Alanya district of the Mediterranean resort of Antalya on Aug. 27, Doğan News Agency has reported.

The 68-year-old tourist, identified as Nikolay Kudinov, reportedly went swimming off the coast in the Kızlarpınar neighborhood in the early hours of the morning but after swimming for a while locals observed him struggling in the sea.
