Anti-Croat Sentiment

A lecture given by two well-known Serbian historians in Zagreb earlier this week has caused controversy in Croatia because it appeared to show sympathy for the Serbian nationalist Chetnik movement in World War II.

The Higher State Prosecution launched an investigation into the mass killings in July 2019, and political parties and civic activists called on the authorities to exhume the remains from the cave and identify the victims.

The appeals chamber of the Bosnian state court on Wednesday convicted three members of the Serb nationalist Ravna Gora Movement of inciting ethnic, racial and religious hatred, discord and intolerance in the Visegrad area in March 2019.

The court ordered a retrial for the three defendants.

"The Serbian movie will not be shown in our cinema," Cineplexx told news website CDM.

But the threat posed by right-wing groups, such as the Ravna Gora Chetnik Movement, has been largely neglected.

The proposal came after the Peace is Our Nation bloc and the Black on White coalition, both of which are also part of the ruling alliance, voted alongside opposition MPs to adopt a resolution to recognise the Srebrenica massacres by Bosnian Serb forces in 1995 as genocide.

The Serbian National Council, which represents Croatia's Serb minority, said on Monday that activists from the far-right Autochthonous Croatian Party of Rights, A-HSP have parked a caravan in the village of Srb decorated with symbols of the World War II fascist Ustasa movement ahead of the annual commemoration of an anti-fascist uprising in 1941.

Several historians have criticised the Serbian authorities after Chetnik movement leader Dragoslav 'Draza' Mihailovic's picture was displayed alongside that of Partisan leader Josip Broz Tito at a state-sponsored event at the National Theatre in Belgrade on Sunday to commemorate Victory Day in World War II.

Ravna Gora Movement members Dusan Sladojevic, alias Krvce and Cica, Slavko Aleksic, alias Vojvoda, and Risto Lecic pleaded not guilty at the Bosnian state court on Monday to charges of inciting ethnic, racial and religious hatred, discord and intolerance at gatherings in the town of Visegrad and the nearby village of Dobrunska Rijeka in March 2019.
