Cypriot Energy Minister George Papanastasiou announced on Wednesday that the obstacles in the development plan for the Aphrodite gas field have been overcome, marking progress in Cyprus' energy ambitions.

The Cypriot government and Chevron Corporation are moving forward with the update of the existing development and production plan for the Aphrodite gas field in Cyprus' exclusive economic zone (EEZ).

The Greek Cyprus government and U.S. energy company Chevron have reached a deal on how to develop the Aphrodite gas field, the first to be discovered under the seafloor off Cyprus, an official Friday. The field is estimated to hold 4.2 trillion cubic feet of gas.

The Aphrodite gas field, the first to be discovered beneath the seafloor off Cyprus, is estimated to hold 4.2 trillion cubic feet of gas.

Chevron has successfully obtained an extension until Friday to submit a crucial letter detailing its plans for the development of the Aphrodite field, as Cyprus' Minister of Energy, Trade and Industry George Papanastasiou confirmed on Monday.

Cypriot Energy Minister George Papanastasiou has issued a new message to Chevron, operator of the Aphrodite gas field, via Parliament ahead of the crucial meeting with Chevron's Chairman Clay Neff. It comes as the deadline for resolving the dispute over the development plan of the field approaches.

Washington has weighed into a dispute between Cyprus and international companies led by Chevron over how to develop a giant offshore gas field, backing the US company's plan to link it to neighboring Egypt, two industry sources and a US source said on Friday.

Chevron is preparing to issue a tender to lease a drilling ship to explore for natural gas off Cyprus, Egypt and Israel, it said on Monday.

Reuters this month cited sources saying that the US company had issued a tender seeking a drilling vessel in 2024 for a year with an option to extend for several years.

The spokesperson said the U.S recognised the right of the Republic of Cyprus to develop resources in its Exclusive Economic Zone

Israel's energy minister said on March 9 that Tel Aviv is ready to cooperate with Turkey on natural gas in the Eastern Mediterranean.

Yuval Steinitz was speaking to the press about the Eastern Mediterranean Natural Gas Pipeline (EastMed) project during a visit to the Greek Cypriot administration.
