Edirne initiates solar-powered lighting for historic bridges
The historic Bayezid II and Yalnızgöz bridges in the northwestern province of Edirne are now illuminated by a newly installed solar energy system, paving the way for a broader initiative that will see 12 other historic bridges over Tunca and Meriç rivers in the city similarly adorned.
Arda’s Transfer to Real Madrid Leaves Turkish Fans Bitter-Sweet
Arda Guler, a young Turkish football star, was welcomed by press, fans and team administrators in Madrid on Friday after Spain's Real Madrid and Turkey's Fenerbahce football clubs finally agreed on the highest transfer fee - 30 million euros - ever paid for a Turkish player on Thursday.
"Many clubs wanted me, but when Real Madrid want you, it's over," Arda said in Madrid on Friday.
Arda Güler becomes Türkiye’s most expensive player
La Liga giant Real Madrid on July 7 revealed its latest signing, Turkish international midfielder Arda Güler, making the 18-year-old player the most expensive of his country with an initial transfer fee of 20 million euros to be paid to Fenerbahçe.

Currently, 245 white-headed vultures inhabit the region along the Arda River valley, as 60 birds live in the Greek part of the Rhodope Mountains.
This is the largest number of vultures found to stay overnight in the Eastern Rhodopes since 2005.
Prevala Pass Re-opened to Traffic
District governor of Smolyan, Nedyalko Slavov, cancelled the partial state of emergency for the Prevala pass (South Bulgaria), the district press office said on 30th of January. Traffic through the pass has been restored, but snow chains are obligatory required. The district crisis management unit monitors the condition of the dams and rivers in the area.

Illegal crossings in Meriç River doubled
The number of irregular migrants crossing the Meriç (Evros or Maritsa) River to enter Greece from Turkey has more than doubled in the first nine months of 2018, compared with the whole year of 2017.
