Protesters in Tirana Demand Dismissal of Bank of Albania Governor
Several hundred citizens, including journalists, organized a protest Monday in front of the headquarters of Albania's central bank in downtown Tirana.
Protesters demanded the instant dismissal of Ardian Fullani, governor of the bank, due to the theft of around EUR 5 M from a storage facility of the bank.
Albania Central Bank Chief Grilled Over Theft
After a hearing held behind closed doors, the head of the parliamentary commission on economy, Erjon Brace, said the theft had damaged the image of the bank.
“All those responsible for this criminal affair should be thoroughly investigated and brought to justice,” Brace said. “This theft has tainted the image of Albania’s central bank,” he added.
