Two injured in Kefalonia helicopter’s emergency landing

Two people onboard a small private helicopter were lightly injured when they were forced to make an emergency landing on the island of Kefalonia, western Greece, on Thursday morning, the local press reported.

The two passengers, both Greek nationals aged around 60, are reportedly in good health but were transferred to the Argostoli Hospital for a medical examination. 

PM outlines plans for development of Ionian islands

The 2030 regional development plan for the Ionian islands includes over 260 projects budgeted at 1.3 billion euros, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said on Corfu on Wednesday. 

He noted that funds for the program will come from the EU's NSRF, the Public Investments Program, the "Antonis Tritsis" program and the Recovery Fund. 

School evacuated in Cephalonia due to blaze

A high school was evacuated by local authorities on the island of Cephalonia on Thursday after a second fire broke out in grassland between the villages of Pastra and Katelio in the southeast.

Deputy regional governor Panagis Drakoulogonas ordered the evacuation of the school, located in Pastra, for precautionary reasons, according to state-run news agency ANA-MPA.

3.5 tremor hits Kefalonia

A 3.5 magnitude earthquake rocked the island of Kefalonia off the west coast of Greece, Wednesday at 11.15am. The tremor occurred to the south of Lixouri and the epicenter was located 14km from Argostoli and had a depth of 5km. No damage was reported. Kefalonia and the Ionian islands are one of the most seismogenic zones in Greece.
