The Frogs | Athens | May 3 & 4

The eccentric Opera Chaotique duo and the renowned Berlin-based Merlin Puppet Theater join forces at the Greek National Opera's Alternative Stage in a subversive reworking of Aristophanes' comedy "The Frogs," for two final performances on Friday and Saturday. In this reworking, Dionysus meets Edgar Allan Poe, Charles Bukowski, Artur Rimbaud and the spirit of Tom Waits.

The Frogs | Epidaurus | August 10 & 11

First presented in 405 BC, Aristophanes' comedy "The Frogs," which tells the story of the god Dionysus, who, despairing of the state of Athens's tragedians, travels to the underworld to bring the playwright Euripides back from the dead, will be staged at the Ancient Theater of Epidaurus on August 10 and 11, starting at 9 p.m.

Aristophanes & Cyclops | Epidaurus | July 21 & 22

The Greek National Theater goes on stage at the Ancient Theater of Epidaurus on Friday and Saturday, July 21 and 22, with a kooky adaptation of Aristophanes' "Peace," directed in the form of a musical by Constantinos Arvanitakis, with a score composed by Nikos Kypourgos and starring the unorthodox musician/actor Tzimis Panousis as Trygaeus.
