The European Union will fall far short of its target of sending one million artillery shells to Ukraine by March, it said on Wednesday, adding that just over half that number would be delivered by the deadline.

Ukraine's Western allies will launch an "artillery coalition" at a Paris ceremony Thursday, aiming to strengthen Kiev's armed forces against Russia's military.

Led by France and the United States, the 23-nation effort is part of the so-called Ramstein contact group, which gathers more than 50 countries supporting Ukraine.

The U.S. government on Wednesday announced what it said was the last remaining package of weapons available for Ukraine under existing authorization, with Congress now needing to decide whether to keep supporting Kiev's battle against Russian invasion.

The US is reportedly discussing with Greece the sale of a total of 75,000 artillery shells from the Hellenic Armed Forces' stockpile as part of the effort to replenish Ukrainian ammunition in the war against Russia.

Over two dozen unexploded artillery shells that were discovered on Istanbul's Şile coast have been disposed of, according to the Defense Ministry, which declared that the shells might be dating back to World War II.

Turkish underwater defence forces detonated more than 20 artillery shells on Turkey's Black Sea coast on Wednesday, after they were discovered lying in the sea near an Istanbul beach, state-run Anadolu agency reported.

Some 28 unexploded artillery shells have been detected in the Black Sea, off Istanbul's northern district of Şile, the provincial governor's office has announced.

A man swimming at a beach in Şile noticed some metal objects in the sea and reported the situation to the gendarmerie.
