FT: Bulgaria Strives to Become Tech Capital of Balkans

Bulgaria is striving to catch up with central Europe and its shift to innovative and creative industries, the Financial Times says in a recent story.

"A generation of westernised engineers and programmers with a global outlook now underpins the country's emergence as the technology capital of the Balkans," FT notes in its Investing in Central & Eastern Europe report.

Offshore Gas Exploration to Begin in Bulgaria's Khan Asparuh

The Noble Globetrotter II, the exploration vessel set to carry out the first drilling at the Black Sea block of Khan Asparuh is to be officially shown on Tuesday.

Bulgaria's Energy Minister Temenuzhka Petkova will also attend the ceremony alongside Total's General Manager for Bulgaria, Xavier Faugeras.

France's Total to Start Drilling off Bulgaria Coast in Feb-May 2016

French company Total said on Wednesday that it will start drilling for oil and gas off Bulgaria's Black Sea coast between February and May next year.

The first exploration site, part of Khan Asparuh block, will be located about 86 km off the Bulgarian coast, Xavier Faugeras, general manager of Total E&P Bulgaria, said in Varna, presenting the project to the public.

KAI Group, the largest Bulgarian manufacturer of ceramic tiles, has been acquired by leading global flooring manufacturer Mohawk Industries.

The previous owner of KAI Group, investment fund Advent International, is selling the company 7 years after acquiring it.

Possible Gas Reserves at Bulgaria's Khan Asparuh Block at 100 bcm

OMV Spokesperson Robert Lechner has confirmed potential hydrocarbon accumulations in the Khan Asparuh exploration block in Bulgaria's Black Sea.

In an interview for Pressa daily, he confirmed that there was potential for finding hydrocarbon accumulations in the Khan Asparuh block, adding that it was too early to come up with a conclusive statement on the matter.
