Merkel wants U.S. to take more asylum seekers

Agela Merkel has urged the U.S. to accept more asylum seekers while Europe is having difficultly coping with the biggest influx of asylum seekers after WW2.

"It is not realistic to assume that Europe will itself be to cope with this by itself without the help of the United States", the German chancellor told MPs from her party, according to the N1 website.

Macedonia Police Slammed for Abusing Refugees

In a report released on Monday, Human Rights Watch accused the Macedonian police of beating and insulting refugees and migrants from countries like Syria, Afghanistan and Somalia.

"It's plain to see that Macedonia has a problem with police violence against asylum seekers and migrants," said Emina Cerimovic of Human Rights Watch.

Most refugees and migrants quickly find out they don't want to stay in Bulgaria and this adds to Europe's problem of controlling mass migration, Al Jazeera America has noted.

"The EU's poorest country has accepted an asylum seeker quota, but few want to live with so few social services," it goes on.

Germany Reintroducing Border Controls over Migrant Influx

Germany has decided to reintroduce border controls along its border with Austria, authorities say.

The measure comes less than a day after the city of Munich, which has given shelter to thousands of migrants from the Middle East, said it could not cope with the flow of asylum seekers who entered the country in a matter of hours.

Balkan States Told to Take in More Refugees

Jean-Claude Juncker, President of the European Commission, on Wednesday proposed a new plan for accepting 160,000 refugees in the EU and at the same time proposed that non-EU countries in the Western Balkans be put on a list of safe countries.

The proposition presented to the European Parliament adds another 40,000 to an existing plan for quotas set in May.
