Requiem | Athens | January 11 & 12

Choreographer Alexis Tsiamoglou presents "Requiem: A Choreographed Portrait," at the Athens Concert Hall on Saturday and Sunday. In this original piece, dancer Niovi Benou presents a solo in which she approaches the creative process of dance much as a painter would approach the process of putting his or her feelings on the canvas. Shows start at 9 p.m. and general admission costs 15 euros.

Classical Gala | Athens | December 30

George Petrou conducts the Athens State Orchestra in a classical gala at the Athens Concert Hall on Sunday, December 30, with arias and duets from popular operas sung by soprano Vassia Alati and baritone Tassis Christoyannis, followed by Viennese waltzes and operettas by Strauss and Lehar. Tickets range from 16 to 60 euros and the show starts at 8.30 p.m.

Nightmare Before Christmas | Athens | December 15 & 16

The Athens State Orchestra performs the score penned by Danny Elfman for Tim Burton's iconic 1993 stop-motion animated musical dark fantasy film "The Nightmare Before Christmas," which will be screened simultaneously with Greek supertitles, at the Athens Concert Hall on December 15 and 16. The show starts at 9 p.m. on Saturday and 5 p.m. on Sunday, and tickets cost 17, 22 and 27 euros.

Met's 'La Traviata' | Athens & Thessaloniki | December 15 & 16

The Athens and Thessaloniki concert halls will be screening the Metropolitan Opera's production of Giuseppe Verdi's "La Traviata" this weekend, conducted by Yannick Nezet-Seguin and directed by Tony Award-winner Michael Mayer. Soprano Diana Damrau plays the tragic heroine, Violetta, and tenor Juan Diego Florez is Alfredo, her hapless lover.

Johann Strauss Ensemble | Athens | December 8 & 9

The Johann Strauss Ensemble brings a touch of the atmosphere of Vienna at Christmas to the Greek capital on December 8 and 9, with two concerts of Viennese waltzes at the Athens Concert Hall. The ensemble will be conducted by Russell McGregor, who also performs the violin solos, and will also be accompanied by two opera singers and dancers from the Greek National Opera's ballet school.

Tsitsanis Tribute | Athens | December 4 & 5

The Vassilis Tsitsanis Orchestra, an ensemble formed with the support of the heirs of the great rebetiko master (1915-84), makes its debut at the Athens Concert Hall on Tuesday and Wednesday with a concert of some of the songwriter and bouzouki player's most popular pieces. Acclaimed singers Dimitra Galani and Natassa Bofiliou will accompany the ensemble on vocals. Shows start at 8.30 p.m.

London Philharmonic | Athens | December 13

The London Philharmonic Orchestra comes to the Athens Concert Hall on Thursday, December 13, with Sir Roger Norrington conducting a rare live performance of Beethoven's Fifth Symphony, as well as his Leonore Overture. Turkish pianist Fazil Say will also be on stage on the night, performing Saint-Saens's Piano Concerto No 2. The concert starts at 8.30 p.m. and tickets cost 22-80 euros.

Piano Recital | Athens | December 3

With numerous awards under her belt, including from the Academy of Athens, and having collaborated with great conductors, Alexia Mouza's recital at the Athens Concert Hall comes hot on the heels of her Carnegie Hall debut. The critically acclaimed Greek pianist will perform Chopin's Piano Sonata No 3 in B minor and Liszt's Sonata in B minor. The recital starts at 8.30 p.m.
