Athens metro suspended between Acropolis and Syntagma due to suspect bag

Authorities suspended Athens metro services on the section between Acropolis and Syntagma stations on Tuesday due to a suitcase at the former station that was deemed to be suspicious.

Officers of the Greek Police's bomb disposal unit were dispatched to the scene.

Services were suspended shortly before 3 p.m.
 

Prank call briefly shuts down two Athens metro stations

Authorities on Thursday morning briefly shut down the Egaleo and Aghia Marina stations on the Athens metro after a bomb threat was called in.
Police officers who rushed at the scene said that no evidence of an explosive device was found.
Train services on Line 3 resumed shortly after authorities gave the green light.

Piraeus metro beset by delays

Delivery of the Athens metro's extension to the port city of Piraeus is being beset by delays, with the opening of the first three stations (Aghia Varvara, Korydallos and Nikai) being pushed to early 2020 and the other three (Maniatika, Piraeus and Municipal Theater) slated to open in 2021, the company running the project has said.

The strike aims to highlight the need for better working conditions and "decent wages".

For the moment, workers in the city's electric railways (ISAP), city buses and trolleybuses have joined the protest.

Metro and tram workers in Athens have not yet decided whether to join the action.

Man pulled out alive from Athens metro tracks

A man who fell on the train tracks of the Ampelokipi metro station on Saturday was pulled out alive by firemen, state-run news agency ANA-MPA reported.
It is unclear how the man ended up on the tracks.
Services on the section between Megaro Moussikis and Katehaki on Metro Line 3 have been temporarily suspended, while the stations Ampelokipi and Panormou are closed.
