The heat is on for the Greek capital
People enjoy a warm winter day in the seaside Athens suburb of Glyfada, on January 10. A study by the National Observatory of Athens on weather trends in the Greek capital since 1860 showed 2011-2020 as being the warmest decade on record with an average temperature of 19 Celsius.

Apartment rates show resilience
Asking prices for property sales and rental rates in Athens and Thessaloniki continue to rise, in the main, with just a few exceptions, according to a January survey carried out by online property ads platform Spitogatos.

Retailers struggling to adjust
The hybrid shopping models of click-and-collect and click-inside have started operating in major cities such as Athens, Piraeus, Patra and Halkida due to the new Covid-19 restrictions, with many problems reported and some major enterprises leaving it very late before deciding whether they would employ them or stay closed.

Tatoi restoration plans finalized, to be completed by 2023
The restoration of the former royal estate at Tatoi, north of Athens, is proceeding at a fast clip now that it has been decided what sort of activities will be included in its future use. A proposal to include a golf course was finally abandoned, as was the construction of housing units.

ATHEX: Bourse sheds over 7.3 pct in January
Athinon Avenue gave up 7.36% over the month of January after another day of losses on Friday for the benchmark and the majority of stocks. The prospect of tighter restrictions and concerns over when the economy will start to recover continued to put pressure on prices.

Three central Athens metro stations ordered closed from 4 p.m.
The downtown Athens metro stations of Panepistimio, Monastiraki and Evangelismos will be closed at 4 p.m. on Friday on the orders of the Greek police.
The station closure was ordered to take place ahead of a 5 p.m. protest rally planned outside Athens University on Panepistimiou Street in support of jailed November 17 terrorist Dimitris Koufodinas.
Students defy gatherings ban to protest education reforms
Students and teachers take part in a rally against education reforms promoted by the conservative government - which, among other things, foresee the presence of police on university campuses - in Athens Thursday. About 4,000 people marched to Syntagma Square, while a smaller gathering took place in the northern port city of Thessaloniki.
