Attempted murder

After a trial lasting 14 months, a mixed jury court on Friday sentenced Roula Pispirigou to life imprisonment for the murder of her eldest daughter, Georgina.

Both the jury and judges found the 35-year-old woman from the western port city of Patra guilty as charged in the indictment.

Three people were arrested last Saturday and 10 more were identified as members of a criminal gang involved in a series of offences including extortion, attempted murder, and causing grievous bodily harm.

Two Cretan soccer fans were remanded in custody on Wednesday for allegedly assaulting a rival supporter who is in a coma after suffering serious head injuries.

The two suspects, aged 24 and 27, are accused of attacking their victim, an Ethnikos Piraeus fan, when his team was playing Irodotos on Crete.

A third man, aged 22, was released after posting 2,000 euros in bail.
