Shocking photo shows woman covered in oil in Paleo Faliro (photo)

A photo uploaded by Max Gyselinck on his Facebook page, has revealed the extent of the environmental disaster in the Saronic Gulf and the Athens Riviera from last week’s oil spill in the port of island of Salamina when a tanker called Agia Zoni 2 sunk. The photo was shot in the sea of Paleo Faliro on September 20 during cleaning operations by the Marine Ministry.

Two policemen accused of highway robbery

Two police officers have been arrested on charges of participating in a highway robbery against a 47-year-old Syrian man in February by abusing their official capacity.

The foreign national had flown into Athens from Germany and was driving into the city center on the Attiki Odos highway when he was stopped by what appeared to be an official police checkpoint.

Refugee trafficking operation busted by police in Attica

Police said Wednesday that a people smuggling operation unraveled last week in Attica used stolen passports and even forged an ID belonging to a member of Eurojust - the European Union agency dealing with judicial cooperation in criminal matters - to fly refugees into Central and Northern Europe.

Man rescued after falling onto ISAP track at Omonia station

A man who fell onto the track of the Kifissia-Piraeus electric railway (ISAP) on Saturday night was rescued by firefighters.

The incident occurred at Omonia station in central Athens soon after midnight on Saturday. It was not clear what caused the man to end up on the tracks.

Twelve firefighters arrived at the scene and it took them around 1.5 hours to lift the man to safety.
