Avalanche

Two people were killed and three others were injured after being caught in an avalanche at a ski resort in Idaho.

Rescue operations continued throughout the day. According to local media, one of the dead was found under a three-meter layer of snow, according to BGNES.

Authorities in northern Greece have been forced to shut down the popular ski report of Falakro, north of Drama, due to concerns that heavy snowfall and high winds in the area may trigger avalanches.

There are favourable conditions for skiing, the Mountain Rescue Service to the Bulgarian Red Cross told Focus News Agency. The weather is unfavourable for hiking in the high parts of Vitosha and the Balkan Mountain Range due to strong wind. At Botev Peak, the wind is stormy. The lift facilities are open, the ski slopes were prepared.

There is high avalanche risk in the Rila, Pirin and Rhodope mountains, the Mountain Rescue Service with the Bulgarian Red Cross told Focus News Agency. The weather is cloudy and calm, light wind blowing in some parts. The avalanche danger increases as the weather gets better.

Bulgaria's Mountain Rescue Service on 25th of January warns of high danger of avalanches in the mountains, reports BNT. 

Considerable avalanche danger prevails in Pirin mountain, where the showfall was significant and storm-strong winds have deposited fresh snowdrifts on the slopes.

One skier is enough to trigger an avalanche in such locations, the rescue service warns.

The conditions for tourism on the mountains are bad, there is fog in many places, it is snowing and the wind is getting stronger. This is what the Mountain Rescue Service to the Bulgarian Red Cross told Focus Agency. In all mountains there are great amounts of new snow and avalanche danger.

Bulgaria's mountain rescue service on 23rd of January are warning of a high avalanche danger in the coming days. The highest risk of avalanches is in Pirin mountain as there is already 30 cm new snow. By Sunday, the snow cover is expected to reach 1 m, reports BNT. 

The weather conditions are dangerous for both tourists and fans of extreme sports and skiing off piste.

There is still a danger of avalanches in the mountains, the Mountain Rescue Service (MRS) to the Bulgarian Red Cross told Focus News Agency. Skiers are advised to stay on the marked slopes.
Morning temperatures in the mountains range from zero to minus 10 degrees C. The resorts and ski centres are operating subject to the weather conditions.

The five Macedonian snowboarders who had fallen into a furrow in Pirin were successfully rescued. They were snowboarding and skiing outside designated areas, Mountain Rescue Service (MAS) said.
