Pilots rescued after aircraft crashes off Turkey’s Aegean coast

A Turkish military jet trainer crashed on April 9 in the Aegean Sea, the Turkish Defense Ministry said.

According to a ministry statement, the two pilots of the KT-1 type plane that crashed during its regular training flight were rescued by Turkish Coast Guard teams.

The plane crashed due to engine failure, it said.

Turkish Airlines leads European carriers in daily flights

Turkey's flag carrier Turkish Airlines ranked first in Europe in terms of the daily number of flights between Feb. 8 and Feb. 15, according to data from the European Organization for Air Navigation Safety (Eurocontrol).

Turkish Airlines operated on average 592 flights a day in the said period, while Turkey's low-cost carrier Pegasus came in third in the list at 263 flights.

33.7 mln passengers choose Turkish airports this year

The number of passengers flying through Turkish airports stood at 33.7 million in January-April, the country's airport authority reported on May 7.

The introduction of coronavirus-related travel restrictions and the closure of national borders led to a 41.3% year-on-year decrease in the four-month figure, the General Directorate of State Airports Authority (DHMI) data showed.

Turkish airports serve 33.6 mln air passengers in Q1

Some 33.6 million passengers traveled through airports in Turkey in January-March, the country's airport authority announced on April 7. 

The first-quarter figure was down 18.8% from the same period a year earlier on both domestic and international flights, the General Directorate of State Airports Authority (DHMI) said in a statement.
