Ankara municipality to cut down 8,000 trees for additional roads passing through ODTÜ: Deputy

The Ankara municipality will cut down 8,000 trees for additional roads to pass through the Middle East Technical University (ODTÜ) campus, in a means to connect the Bilkent City Hospital to the city, the Ankara Independent Deputy Aylin Nazlıaka said on Aug. 16 in a press conference at the Turkish parliament.

Over 8.5 million Turks received psychological treatment in 2016

Over 8.5 million people received psychological treatment in 2016 in Turkey, which has a population of nearly 80 million, according to statistics released by the Health Ministry.

The ministry said the number increased by 740,602 in one year, reaching 8,656,513, which corresponds to over 10 percent of the country's population. 

10 percent rise in weapons used by civilians in Turkey in first three months of 2017

The number of weapons used by civilians in Turkey rose by 10 percent in the first three months of 2017, according to statistics released by the Interior Ministry. 

The total number of licensed weapons used by civilians reached 338,052 with the increase, the ministry said upon a parliamentary question regarding individual arming by independent lawmaker Aylin Nazlıaka. 

Boğaziçi University bans event with main opposition CHP deputy head Böke

An event due to host a speech by main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) Deputy Chair Selin Sayek Böke at Istanbul's prestigious Boğaziçi University has been cancelled by the authorities.

Böke had been due to give a speech on March 19 at the Boğaziçi Administration and Leadership Summit to be held by the university's Business and Economy Club.
