At least five civilians were killed and 15 others injured in a car bombing in Syria's northwestern city of Azaz, local sources said on Jan. 26.

More than 280 schools have been renovated by Turkey's humanitarian efforts in the northern Syrian district of Azaz, in a bid to normalize life conditions in the region following Turkish army's Operation Euphrates Shield.

Turkish army yesterday hit YPG targets in northern Syria, "neutralizing" many militants, state-run Anadolu Agency said in a report based on local sources. Turkish howitzer hit YPG positions in Azaz and Mare districts, the agency said.

Syrians have been receiving vocational training in a public education center established by Turkey in northern Syria's opposition-held Azaz region.

Tens of thousands of Syrians have returned to Syria from Turkey to celebrate Eid al-Fitr at home after years spent in Turkey amid the war in their homeland. 

Some 110,000 Syrians crossed the border after waiting for hours amid blazing heat to return to their houses, daily Milliyet reported on June 25. 

Turkey and Turkey-backed Free Syrian Army (FSA) rebels gained full control of Syria's al-Bab on Feb. 24 as part of the Euphrates Shield operation, the Turkish Armed Forces has announced.

The military said clean-up work regarding obstacles, mines and hand-made explosives was ongoing.

Turkey reopened an important border gate with Syria on Nov. 17, two days after an outbreak of fighting across the frontier between two fractions of the Free Syrian Army (FSA) rebels that are fighting the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) in northern Syria as part of the Euphrates Shield Operation.

Turkey wants the establishment of a secure humanitarian aid strip 10 kilometers deep into the Syrian side of its border, including the town of Azaz, in order to prevent "attempts to change the demographic structure" of the area, Deputy Prime Minister Yalç?n Akdo?an stated on Feb. 17. 

Turkey wants to establish a secure zone on the border with Syria that would go ten kilometers into the territory of the neighboring country.

This has been announced by Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Yalcin Akdogan. The proposed safe zone would include the Syrian town of Azaz.
