Village head suspended after hiding potential COVID-19 cases
A muhtar (village head) in the eastern province of Van has been suspended from post after authorities figured out that he hid the identities of people who might have contracted the deadly coronavirus.
More Turkish villages put under quarantine
Turkey has put more villages in the eastern and Central Anatolian provinces under quarantine in a bid to contain the spread of the deadly coronavirus.
Two neighborhoods and two hamlets in the eastern Van province, near the Iranian border, have been placed under quarantine, Mehmet Emin Bilmez, the local governor, has announced.

‘Vanadoccia’ in eastern Turkey declared protected area
An area in the eastern province of Van's Başkale district, which is called "Vanadoccia" by locals due to its resemblance to Cappadocia's fairy chimneys, has been declared as a protected area.
With a presidential decree dated Feb. 11, Vanadoccia became a "strictly protected sensitive area."
Six migrants found after freezing to death in eastern Turkey
The bodies of six people thought to be unregistered migrants have been found in Turkey's eastern Van province's Başkale district, just near the Iran border, Anadolu Agency reported on May 3.

The formal invitation, with bold golden letters against a black backdrop, contained no female names - not that of the bride, nor the parents.

Three village guards, one civilian killed in PKK attack in Turkey's Van
Three village guards and one civilian were killed on Nov. 9 in an attack by the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) in the Başkale district of the southeastern province of Van, Doğan News Agency has reported.
PKK militants used long-barreled weapons to rake a minibus carrying village guards returning from the Yavuzlar neighborhood near the Iranian border.
