Legendary fast food joint named brand of the year
Years ago Burek Olimpija was a typical Ljubljana fast food joint known mostly to locals as purveyors of delicious burek, a typical Balkan savoury pastry. In recent years, however, it has harnessed social media to such an effect that it has been declared the brand of the year at the country's largest advertising festival, a prize typically reserved for large corporate brands.

Nigerian chef-to-be to represent Turkish cuisine in Canada
Abosede Ruth, a 25-year-old Nigerian national, has been enrolled in a culinary school in the southeastern province of Gaziantep for four months.
She is planning to open a restaurant in Canada after completing the eight-month training and an eight-month internship program.
"I love cooking and tasting. I want to be a big chef and I want to open a restaurant in Canada," she said.

Hafız Mustafa, one of Istanbul's most famous confectioneries, continues its world-famous Turkish delight tradition with its 157-year-old recipe.
The sweetshop was established in 1864 by İsmail Hakkı Bey in the Bahçekapı neighborhood of Istanbul's Fatih district, where he started to make rock candy.

Erzurum's baklava gets geographical mark
Baklava with molasses, a product of Turkey's eastern Erzurum province, has earned a coveted geographical indication from the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office, authorities announced on March 5.
With the indication, Baklava will join a number of items that already won the designation such as cağ kebab, kadayıf dolma, civil cheese, and su böreği (pasty).
