Good Conditions for Skiing, Strong Wind High on Vitosha and the Balkan

There are favourable conditions for skiing, the Mountain Rescue Service to the Bulgarian Red Cross told Focus News Agency. The weather is unfavourable for hiking in the high parts of Vitosha and the Balkan Mountain Range due to strong wind. At Botev Peak, the wind is stormy. The lift facilities are open, the ski slopes were prepared.

Large Amounts of Rainfall in Southwest Bulgaria, Snow in the Rila-Rhodopes

Significant cloud today with rainfall in many places, at altitudes above 1,000 m - snow. Larger amounts of rain are expected in Southwest Bulgaria, while in the Rila-Rhodope region additional snow will accumulate. In Eastern Bulgaria and in parts of the northern slopes of the Balkan Mountain Range there will be moderate to strong wind from south.

The Organization of Placido Domingo with a Plan to Save the Monument of Buzludzha

Europa Nostra, the leading heritage organisation in Europe, and the European Investment Bank Institute published today a technical and financial report comprising an action plan to preserve and develop the Buzludzha Monument in Bulgaria. The building was listed among the 7 Most Endangered heritage sites in Europe in 2018, following a nomination made by the Buzludzha Project Foundation.

Second Day 30 Mountain Rescuers Search for a Man Lost in the Balkan Mountain

 For the second day 30 mountain rescuers are searching for a missing man on the ridge between Dobrila and Ambaritsa huts in the Balkan Mountain, the Mountain Rescue Service told Focus News Agency. Two new teams are preparing to join the search, from Plovdiv and Sofia.

The Restoration of the Buzludzha Monument would Cost the Bulgarian State EUR 7.5 Million

The renovation of the Buzludja monument would cost 7.5 million leva, the roof of the building urgently needs to be repaired, it should be declared a monument of culture and decided which state structure will govern it. The owner can then apply for European funds for its reimbursement. Its future functions must be publicly discussed. One of the possible options is to become a modern museum.

All Bulgarian Roads are Passable, Nearly 700 Machines were out Clearing the Roads Last Night

Approximately 700 snow removal vehicles were out clearing the roads last night. All national roads are passable in winter conditions. Around 8:30 am, restrictions on the movement of heavy goods vehicles over 12 tonnes with trailers and semi-trailers across the Preval pass were lifted, said the press office of the Road Infrastructure Agency, reports Focus News Agency.
