Turkish, American fighter jets to carry out NATO air patrols

Turkish and US fighter jets have taken up NATO air policing duties this week to guard the skies over Poland and Iceland, a NATO spokesperson said on July 7. 

"We thank our Allies the United States and Turkey for contributing to NATO's air policing missions," Oana Lungescu said in a statement.

Chief of the German Air Force, Lieutenant General Ingo Gerhartz and the Chief of Staff of the Air Force, Major General Viorel Pana, signed on Thursday, during a ceremony held at the 57th Mihail Kogalniceanu Air Base, the Declaration of Intent on the Development of Bilateral Relations in the aviation sector.

USA Placed the First "Patriots" Missiles in Lithuania

The US installed an air defense system named Patriot missiles in Lithuania. These missiles are the first to emerge in the Baltic region, where Russia has supremacy in the airspace. The defense system will be used during NATO military training "Tobruq Legacy-2017", which begins today and will continue until July 22, the Lithuanian Defense Ministry announced.

USA to Deploy Extra Fighter Jets in Lithuania

The United States will send 6 additional fighter jets to Lithuania in order to reassure its Eastern European allies over increased fears from Russia's incursion in Ukraine.

The planes, which are currently at Lakenheath air base in Britain, will be positioned in the air base in Siauliai, Lithuania, US Defense officials said quoted by the LA Times.
