Janša visits Slovenia’s central bank upon 30th anniversary

Ljubljana – Prime Minister Janez Janša paid a visit to Banka Slovenije on Tuesday after Slovenia’s central bank recently celebrated its 30th anniversary. He received a gold medal that represents the “connection between the central bank and the country”, the prime minister’s office said.

Exhibition on Slovenia’s first currency opens in central bank

Ljubljana – An exhibition on Slovenia’s first currency, the tolar, was launched in Ljubljana on Tuesday as one of the events marking the 30th anniversary of the central bank. Visitors will be able to learn about the process of the planning and design of the currency, and see original portraits of figures featured on tolar banknotes.

Slovenia’s former and current currencies on display

Ljubljana – Slovenia’s central bank will mark the 30th anniversary of the first banknotes issued in independent Slovenia with a projection on the facade of its building in the centre of Ljubljana. The video screen displaying previous and current Slovenian currencies will be lit up every day until the end of October.

IMF downgrades forecast for Slovenia’s economy in 2021

Ljubljana – The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has downgraded its forecast for Slovenia’s growth in 2021 from 5.2% to 3.7%. For 2022, it forecasts 4.5% growth, Bernardin Akitoby, chief of the IMF mission for Slovenia, said on Friday. This means Slovenia’s economy would reach the pre-pandemic level next year.

Pahor nominates Tina Žumer as Banka Slovenije vice-governor

Ljubljana – President Borut Pahor sent to parliament today a proposal to appoint Tina Žumer a vice-governor of central bank Banka Slovenije, while the nominee will present her bid to the public at the Presidential Palace tomorrow. Žumer is a former employee of Banka Slovenije who now works at the European Central Bank.

Vasle says eurozone financial markets remain stable

Ljubljana – The situation on eurozone financial markets remains stable despite the challenges brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic, mainly thanks to the support of the monetary policy and optimism related to vaccination, Banka Slovenije Governor Boštjan Vasle said after Thursday’s session of the Governing Council of the European Central Bank (ECB).
