Putin refuses to expel US diplomats, Trump applauds
President-elect Donald Trump praised President Vladimir Putin for refraining from tit-for-tat expulsions of Americans in response to US punitive measures over alleged Russian interference in the November election.
Putin's decision came despite the foreign ministry asking him to send home 35 US diplomats after President Barack Obama had expelled the same number of Russian staff.

The United States and Russia have engaged in a dangerous diplomatic spat, after the former issued sanctions on the latter over their involvement in hacking U.S. political groups in the 2016 presidential election, which sparked reaction from Russia.

The USA announced the deportation of 35 Russian diplomats as a retaliation for the cyber-attacks Obama is accusing Russia of. The diplomats were given 72 hours to leave the country.
Also two facilities the American authorities claim that were used to facilitate the attacks are shutting down.

U.S. President-elect Donald Trump has reacted after the administration of outgoing President Barack Obama introduced sanctions against Russia.
Trump said it was time for his country to "move on," and announced a meeting with heads of intelligence services that he in the past criticized.

Defying pressure, US lets UN denounce Israeli settlements

Obama bans future oil leases in much of Arctic, Atlantic
