Vulin: MiG-29 jets to be unveiled at October 20 ceremony

NOVI SAD - Serbian Defence Minister Aleksandar Vulin said on Tuesday all six MiG-29 jets acquired by the Serbian Air Force - two of which arrived from Russia late Monday - would be in Serbia by Friday and unveiled at an October 20 ceremony that will mark the anniversary of the WWII liberation of Belgrade.

No army in the world exists because of peace, but because of war, says Serbian Defense Minister Aleksandar Vulin.

Speaking on Wednesday at the Batajnica airport during the marking of Air Force Day, Vulin observed that while tractors are more useful than tanks - if there are no tanks, then one day there will be no tractors, either.

BELGRADE - More than 150 Russian and about 50 Belarusian paratroopers have arrived in Serbia to take part in the Slavic Brotherhood-2016 international military drills, the Russian Defense Ministry press service reported on Wednesday.

Joint military exercise Srem 2014 begins

NIKINCI - Serbian and Russian troops started off a joint exercise entitled Srem 2014 at the training centre in Nikinci on Friday.

Serbia's Defence Minister Bratislav Gasic, diplomatic corps officials and reporters from Serbia and abroad were present for the start of the event, which will involve 404 members of the two countries' armed forces.

BELGRADE -- Serbian Defense Minister Bratislav Gašić and Petroleum Industry of Serbia (NIS) CEO Kirill Kravchenko signed on Tuesday a memorandum on cooperation.

The document aims at improving traffic safety and the storage and transport of hazardous and explosive materials.
