Death toll from Somalia twin bombings climbs to 100

The number of people killed in twin car bombings in the Somali capital Mogadishu, claimed by Al-Shabaab Islamists, has risen to 100, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud said on Sunday.

"So far, the number of people who died has reached 100 and 300 are wounded, and the number for both the death and wounded continues to increase," he said after visiting the blast location.

A car bomb exploded and killed at least 90 people in the Somali capital, Mogadishu, AFP reported.

The explosion occurred early this morning.

A suicide truck bomb targeted a busy security checkpoint in Somalia's capital on Dec. 28 morning, killing at least 61 people, authorities said. It was one of the deadliest attacks in Mogadishu in recent memory.

The attack took place at the junction called Ex-Control Afgoye in a southwestern suburb of the capital during the morning rush hour of Dec. 28.

Somali militants ram car bomb into hotel, killing at least 13

Islamist al-Shabaab militants rammed a car bomb into the gate of a hotel and stormed inside, killing at least 13 people in Somalia's capital Mogadishu on Jan. 25, police said.

Gunfire rang out as fighters entered Dayah Hotel, which is popular with politicians. A second blast shook the area shortly afterwards, injuring several people nearby.

One Turk among six killed in gun attack in Somalia's capital

Six people, including one Turkish national, were killed when unidentified gunmen attacked a minibus carrying workers to a Turkish-run hospital in the Somali capital Mogadishu on March 30, the Turkish Foreign Ministry has said. 

The gunmen, who were in a car, opened fire at the minibus as it passed in Mogadishu's Hodan district.
