China's Xi hosts Central Asian leaders in 'milestone' summit

Chinese President Xi Jinping will host a Central Asian summit on Thursday, seeking to build regional influence as G7 leaders hold a rival gathering in Japan.

Held in the ancient Chinese city of Xi'an, the historic eastern end of the Silk Road that linked China to Europe through Central Asia, this week's summit is of "milestone significance", Beijing has said.

Xi to host first China-Central Asia summit this month

President Xi Jinping will host a two-day summit with the leaders of five Central Asian nations next week, Beijing said on Monday, as China moves to increase its influence in the region.

Leaders of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan are expected to attend the China-Central Asia Summit from May 18 to 19, said China's foreign ministry.

Turkey aims for over 16,700 kilometers of railway by 2023

Turkey aims to have laid 16,775 kilometers (10,423 miles) of the railway as of 2023, the 100th anniversary of its republic, the Turkish transport, and infrastructure minister said on June 5.

The current length of railway in the country is 12,803 kilometers (7,955 miles), Adil Karaismailoğlu told journalists in the central province of Yozgat.

Established in 2015 on the initiative of the Polish and Croatian presidents, 3SI was handed a momentum boost the following year when the administration of Donald Trump gave its backing. On the map, the 3SI team sheet builds a block running right across Europe from north to south and linking the Baltic, Black and Adriatic Seas.

Former PM: Greece will be
 strong link between China and EU

Greece will be a strong link between China and other European countries during the implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), former Greek prime minister George Papandreou told Xinhua. 

Greece maintains excellent bilateral relations with China, he said. 

The two countries have also cooperated closely under the BRI since its launch in 2013. 

Turkish Wealth Fund, Chinese insurance agency ink deal

The Turkish Wealth Fund (TWF) and China Export and Credit Insurance Corporation (Sinosure) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote bilateral economic, trade and investment cooperation.

Sinosure will consider providing support up to $5 billion with respect to the financing activities, according to a statement from TWF on March 26.
