Deputy PM Zaharieva: 78% of Regional Development Ministry Budget Spent in H1 2014

Bulgaria's Ministry of Regional Development budget lacks some BGN 10-11M needed for the maintenance of roads in the winter season.

If the budget is not updated, the amount will reach BGN 40-50M in the spring, caretaker deputy Prime Minister Ekaterina Zaharieva told Bulgarian National Television. Another BGN 80M is needed for road repairs after the floods, she added.

Bulgaria's Finance Ministry has warned social and healthcare spending will face significant shortages due to the state budget deficit currently estimated at BGN 3 B.

On Saturday the institution announced the 2014 deficit, under the update proposal being drafted by officials, will be 4-4.2 percent, and fresh state debt of about USD 4.5 B will be needed to tackle outstanding problems.

Bulgaria's National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) will request a budget update by BGN 100 M, according to Kiril Ananiev, Chair of the Supervisory Board of the NHIF and caretaker Deputy Finance Minister.

Ananiev, as cited by the Bulgarian Telegraph Agency, announced Thursday that the request would be submitted with the Health Minister by the end of the day.

Bulgaria's President Gets Unexpected Budget Boost

The interim government has allocated additional BGN 0.98 M to the Presidency, a draft decree of the Council of Ministers shows.

The document, available on the Finance Ministry's website, reveals BGN 801 000 are to be set aside for President Rosen Plevneliev and Vice President Margarita Popova's visits abroad.
