Bulgaria Increases State Debt by USD 3.4 B, Sets Deficit at 2.7%

The Bulgarian government should seek a new loan adding BGN 3.4 B to mitigate the impact of developments at the Corporate Commercial Bank (KTB), the government says.

Its latest move was agreed Monday during political consultations at Bulgaria's Presidency aimed at looking into options to manage the crisis.

Interior Minister: We Are Investigating A Serious Felony

There are indications for a serious felony and we are investigating it, Interior Minister Tsvetlin Yovchev told journalists in Parliament. 

He did not specify who is under investigation, but said that “obviously money, which was supposed to be in the vault (of the Corporate Commercial Bank (KTB)), is missing”.

Corporate investment into the Bulgarian economy has been almost USD 2 B over the last 10 years, Russia's Foreign Minister has said hours ahead of a visit to Sofia.

Sergey Lavrov has told Focus News Agency that bilateral trade turnover was USD 2.9 B (BGN 4.17 B) last year, citing the numbers as an example for successful commercial and economic relations.
