Turkey aims to have quarter of inner-city commutes by bicycle

The World Resources Institute (WRI) Turkey Sustainable Cities aims to have 1 in every 10 inner-city commutes by bicycle in Turkey in the mid-term and a quarter in the longer term to reduce emissions in transportation and as a key component in the fight against climate change, Güneş Cansız, director of WRI Turkey Sustainable Cities, told Anadolu Agency in an interview.

Schoolteacher imparts cycling lessons to nearly 3,000 students

 

A cycling club called "Özgür Pedallar Bisiklet Kulubü," which can be translated as "Free Pedals Biking Club," established by a schoolteacher has imparted cycling lessons to nearly 3,000 students in three years, according to daily Hürriyet.

"We aim to raise a happy generation through our cycling club," said 43-year-old Savaş Öztorun, the founder of the club.

COVID-19 prompts more Turks to take to the pedals

More people are choosing bicycles as a mode of transportation in Turkey since the start of the coronavirus outbreak, according to a domestic bicycle producer.

Bayram Akgül, deputy chairman of Turkey Bicycle Federation, said sales have spiked.

People are afraid to use mass transportation due to the fast contagion of the virus.

Paris is testing a new form of travel: an eco-friendly, bubble-shaped taxi that zips along the water up and down the Seine River, the Associated Press reported.

This week, the organizers are running tests with a white, oval, enclosed electric hydrofoil boat raised to the so-called water wings and it looks like a small space shuttle that glides along the sights of Paris.
