Bulgaria Renews Production of Legendary Socialist-Era Bike

Bulgaria has renewed production of the legendary socialist-era bicycle called Balkan, with the first new bikes to go on sale in March.

The bikes are crafted by the original producer, Balkanvelo, a firm based in the town of Lovech.

The new bike is a replica of the old one, but a large number of improvements have been introduced.

Bulgarian Bicycle Exports Keep Rising

The volume of Bulgaria's exports of bicycles increased by more than a fifth between 2013 and 2014 to almost 819,000 units, maintaining an upward trend, Bike Europe trade journal reported on Monday.

The total value of Bulgarian bike exports also increased, exceeding EUR 108 M in 2014, or about 32% more than a year earlier, according to an article posted on bike-eu.com.

Thessaloniki hosts a classic bicycle exhibition

The exhibition “Meet the classic bicycle” is being hosted at the WE venue in Thessaloniki.

Among the top attractions of the exhibition is a handmade bicycle which was made by the British company “Raleigh” and constructed during WWI and a military bicycle made by BSA and used by English paratroopers during the period of the expeditions in WWI.

Urban Planning Ministry issues bylaw to ensure safe cycling in urban traffic

Turkey's Environment and Urban Planning Ministry has issued a bylaw to ensure safe cycling in intra-city traffic by regulating the construction of bicycle roads and stations. 

The regulation on the design and construction of bicycle roads, stations and parking lots entered into force after being published in the Official Gazette on Nov. 3.
