Irregular migration is a problem that is affecting Greece, but it is not a Greek problem. Its management depends first and foremost on the European Union's ability to find a modus vivendi with Turkey.

Greek PM unveils four-point plan for migration

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Friday unveiled a four-point plan for dealing with migration, following a surge in arrivals over recent months that is testing the limits of the Greek islands.

"The legislation, the direction of policy and the day-to-day management of the problem will be changing," Mitsotakis told lawmakers.

Shared responsibility

The migration crisis cannot be properly addressed without international cooperation. However, as more people keep flowing into the country, Greece's state apparatus has to display good coordination.

Koumoutsakos: 'Migration demands a common solution'

Migration is a huge challenge for all European countries and demands a commonly-arrived at solution, Alternate Migration Minister Giorgos Koumoutsakos said on Thursday on his arrival at a European Union summit in Helsinki.

"It demands a common solution and a common reaction on a European Union level," he said.
