New over € 5 million will be Invested in the Border Region Between Bulgaria and Northern Macedonia

Over EUR 10.3 million have been invested since the start of the current programming period so far in the municipalities of the border region of Bulgaria and Northern Macedonia under the cross-border cooperation program.

Bulgaria Opens a New Section of Struma Motorway after Blagoevgrad

Bulgaria on 23rd of May opens the traffic on the newly built section of Struma motorway after Blagoevgrad before the future "Zheleznitsa" tunnel will be launched. This will facilitate the traffic, especially before the expected busy traffic to Southwestern Bulgaria and Greece for the coming weekends and the summer season, reports BNT.

 

107 Cases of Measles Reported in Blagoevgrad Region

Some 107 cases of measles have been reported in the Blagoevgrad region, according to the site of the Regional Health Inspection - Blagoevgrad. On 2 April, 6 children aged 1 to 5 were hospitalised. They were admitted to the infectious disease wards in hospitals in Gotse Delchev and Blagoevgrad. So far, 600 contacts of measles cases have been identified.

Mild Earthquake near Blagoevgrad

An earthquake measuring 2.7 on the Richter scale was registered on the territory of Bulgaria, near Blagoevgrad.
 
The quake was felt at 02:27 am this night with an epicenter 13 km east of Blagoevgrad and 80 km south of Sofia, with a depth of 2 km.
 
There is no evidence of material damage.

The Independent: Attempt to Turn Bulgarian National Park into Ski Resort Defeated in Court

Environmentalists have achieved a major victory after a court battle to stop a Bulgarian national park being turned into a ski resort, reported the Independent. 

Bulgaria's top court ruled that Pirin National Park, a world heritage site and home to bears and wolves, must be protected from development.
