Geneva Аirport Closed by Icy 'Beast from the East'

The airport in the Swiss city of Geneva closed on Thursday due to bitterly cold weather that has hit many parts of Europe this week with snow and icy winds, causing travel chaos.

"Because of the prevailing weather conditions, Genève Aéroport is currently closed to air traffic until further notice," the airport said on its website, quoted by Reuters. 

Villagers evacuate homes after landslides

A cleric looks on as residents of the village of Pialeia, near Trikala in central Greece, evacuate their homes on Tuesday following landslides precipitated by heavy rainfall over the last week. The landslides damaged several homes in the broader prefecture of Trikala but there were no reports of any injuries. Adverse weather conditions have caused problems across the country in recent days.

A cold wave is expected to gradually cover the entire Romania, Saturday night through Sunday, with 27 counties from Moldavia, eastern Transylvania, Oltenia, Muntenia and Dobrogea placed under code orange for freezing weather.
