Students bury time capsule to be dug up after 25 years

On the occasion of Middle East Technical University's (METU) Alumni Day, graduates and students buried a time capsule they prepared to be opened after 25 years by future students.

METU employees, students and alumni will convey their messages to future students through nearly 1,500 letters locked in the capsule.

Former minister lost his life at age of 74

Kemal Derviş, Türkiye's former economy minister, has died at the age of 74 in the hospital in Washington where he received treatment.

The former minister had been receiving Parkinson's treatment in the U.S. for a while.

Derviş served as the Economy Minister during an economic crisis in 2000 and 2001, and then was elected as a deputy of the Republican People's Party (CHP).

Law and communications faculties to be established at Boğaziçi University

Two new faculties in Boğaziçi University are set to be established after a presidential decree published on Feb. 6.

According to the decision, signed by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, a law faculty and a communications faculty will be established in the country's most prestigious university.

Five buoys of Kandilli Observatory stolen from Marmara Sea

Some five whistling buoys placed in the Marmara Sea that guide equipment used by experts to observe seismic activities have been stolen, officials from Kandilli Observatory and Earthquake Research Center said on Feb. 3.

"Who stole them and for what? We really do not understand," said Doğan Kalafat, the head of the Tsunami Research Department in Kandilli Observatory.
