Mehmed the Conqueror’s medal set for auction in London

A bronze medal featuring a portrait thought to be dating back to the princehood era of Ottoman Sultan Mehmed II will go up for auction in London, Bonhams Auction House in England has announced.

The medal, which showcases a portrait believed to be from Mehmed II's princehood era, will be auctioned in London by Bonhams Auction House.

Greek art flying off the block

The painting is a feast of colors and allegories - the body of the Homeric hero shines under the light as he places three flowers on his bird cage-for-a-head. The ancient philosopher, dressed in a green tunic, is carrying three fish in his hand. Between the two stands another faceless figurine: a woman dressed in Belle Epoque-style garb holding a clock.

Islamic art auction in London

Following two auctions of Islamic and Indian art in April and October 2015, Bonhams auction house will organize another auction of Islamic and Indian art in London on April 19, featuring exceptional items in several categories. The 315-lot sale includes pieces of outstanding quality in glassware and ceramics, calligraphy and miniature painting, sculpture, bronze, carpets and textiles.

Dorothy’s dress sold for $1.56 million

The dress worn by Hollywood screen star Judy Garland when she played Dorothy in “The Wizard of Oz” was auctioned at $1.56 million in New York. It was the chief highlight in a sale by Bonhams auction house where 400 pieces of Hollywood memorabilia were auctioned. Total sales by the auction house and Turner Classic Movies netted total sales worth more than $4 million.
