Pahor congratulates Bulgarian president on re-election
Ljubljana – President Borut Pahor has congratulated Bulgarian President Rumen Radev on his re-election. He wished him a lot of success in performing important tasks, Pahor’s office said in a press release on Monday.
The presidents also discussed the Covid-19 pandemic and stressed the importance of efforts by both Slovenia and Bulgaria to raise vaccination rates.
Pahor starting two-day visit to Luxembourg
Luxembourg – President Borut Pahor is starting a two-day working visit to Luxembourg on Sunday to meet several senior officials, including Prime Minister Xavier Bettel, and Grand Duke Henri. The visit is designed to intensify political dialogue and cooperation, Pahor’s office said before the visit.

Pahor presents Golden Order of Merit to author Milan Kundera
Paris – President Borut Pahor bestowed the Golden Order of Merit, one of the highest Slovenian state decorations, on Czech-French writer Milan Kundera in Paris on Saturday. Kundera was honoured for having raised his voice for Slovenia’s independence and for his outstanding contribution to understanding turbulent times in Europe.
Pahor urges people to encourage each other to get vaccinated
Ljubljana – President Borut Pahor called on Slovenians on Thursday to encourage each other to get vaccinated so as to prevent lives from being put at risk due to Covid-19 at a time when there are safe and effective vaccines available.
Rok Svetlič elected Constitutional Court judge
Ljubljana – The National Assembly appointed Rok Svetlič a judge on the Constitutional Court for a nine-year term in a secret ballot on Wednesday. Svetlič received 46 votes, the minimum required to get appointed, after only 46 MPs in the 90-strong legislature picked up their ballots and all voted for him. The new judge has already been sworn in.

Večer says 24 April election will come too late
Ljubljana – President Borut Pahor has decided to call a general election on the first possible date, 24 April 2022, “but if he expected to calm down the increasingly tense situation in the country, he was very wrong”, the newspaper Večer says in Saturday’s commentary under the headline No Reprieve.

Pahor calls for EU unity in address to diplomats
Ljubljana – President Borut Pahor addressed a meeting of foreign diplomats accredited to Slovenia on Friday, calling for strengthening the EU’s unity and stability.
The meeting of the diplomatic corps was hosted by the corps’s doyen Jean-Marie Speich, the apostolic nuncio to Slovenia, to mark the 30th anniversary of Slovenia’s independence and its second presidency of the EU.

President Pahor plans to call general election for 24 April
Ljubljana – President Borut Pahor has announced he plans to call the general election for 24 April, the earliest possible date for a scheduled election. The presidential decree to that effect will be signed in February, the president’s office said on Friday.
