That conference at which Schmidt became enraged caused a lot of reactions in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Germany and the region, and Schmidt says today that everyone sometimes gets into such a situation.

It was announced at a status conference at the Bosnian state court on Wednesday that the high-profile trial of prominent wartime political leader Ejup Ganic and nine other defendants who are accused of involvement in war crimes in the high-profile Dobrovoljacka Street case will begin on September 21.

The Russian embassy in Sarajevo alleged on Tuesday that the impending arrival of German troops in Bosnia and Herzegovina to bolster the European Union's EUFOR peacekeeping force, also known as Operation Althea, was part of Western attempts to militarily dominate the Balkan country.

Prosecutors in Bosnia and Herzegovina's Republika Srpska entity are investigating Bosnian Serb MP Jelena Doric following a complaint over her appointment as acting director of the entity's roads authority in apparent violation of a law concerning conflict of interest.

Sakib Mahmuljin, the former commander of the Third Corps of the Army of Bosnia and Herzegovina, ABiH, was sentenced by the Appeal Chamber of the State Court in April to eight years in prison for crimes committed in 1995 in Vozuca and Zavidovici.

But he is not serving his jail sentence and is instead undergoing medical treatment in Turkey, his lawyer confirmed to BIRN.

The threats were sent from Bosnia and Herzegovina, and from Turkey, on June 28, and since then, after BIRN published an investigation into the Grey Wolves organisation's branch and its activities in Bosnia.

Kuloglija and Buyuk continued to receive messages on their phones with intimidating content after the publication of the article.

New legislation introduced into the US Senate aims to support economic development in the Western Balkans through initiatives on infrastructure, trade and anti-corruption, including codification of sanctions to deter destabilizing activity. It also aims to strengthen security in Bosnia and Herzegovina and encourage Albanian and North Macedonian integration into the EU.

But there is a considerable price to pay for these small steps towards basic functioning in the entity-level government. The larger thrust of Schmidt's proposal amounts to a sort of election gerrymandering by the Office of the High Representative, OHR.

The European Union in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the OSCE Mission and the United Nations have told the state authorities that they must make the process more transparent, while domestic organisations have warned of possible politicisation of the process.

Ljubljana – Slovenia recorded what is the lowest positive net migration since 2017 last year as 2,480 people more moved in than out. Compared to 2020, the number of people who moved in was down by more than a third while the number of people who moved out was up by almost 20%, the Statistics Office said.
