Ministry retrofits critical structures for Marmara earthquake

Turkey earns some $32 mln in public bridge, highway tolls in January

Turkey earned over 189.5 million liras (some $32 million) in tolls in January, official figures revealed on Feb. 25.

The July 15 Martyrs' Bridge and the Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge in Istanbul, connecting Europe and Asia over the Bosphorus, yielded over 39 million Turkish liras ($6.6 million) last month, according to the General Directorate of Highways.

Road, bridge tolls reap $322 mln

Turkey earned over 1.8 billion Turkish liras (some $322 million) in tolls from two bridges on the Istanbul Strait as well as roads in the first 11 months of this year, the Turkish Highways Directorate said on Dec. 25.

Some 419 million vehicles went through the toll booths this January-November.

Running across the bridge 15 years in a row

I remember my first 15K in Istanbul. It was a very cold November morning in 2005. Running on the Bosphorus Bridge, which, I must tell you, is one of the most thrilling things to do on this planet, I could feel the freezing rain on my face. Since that day, I ran the 15K race 15 times and the marathon three times. I did not skip a year, even the year when I was pregnant with my daughter.
