Former Prime Minister Boyko Borissov announced that he had been summoned for questioning by caretaker Interior Minister Boyko Rashkov over alleged threats made to a Bulgarian businessman.

"He calls on me to appear for questioning on Thursday," Borissov said during a briefing.

Caretaker Interior Minister Boyko Rashkov confirmed that politicians, public figures and participants in last year's antigovernment protests have been wiretapped.

Elena Ficherova, head of the cabinet of Interior Minister Boyko Rashkov, has applied for dismissal, the ministry said.

"The act is motivated by the desire not to cause negatives for the political cabinet. Interior Minister Boyko Rashkov has granted the request. The order comes into force today," the statement said.

"We will overcome the pandemic by May-June," stated Prime Minister Boyko Borissov in Byala, where he inspected the new sports venue together with Sports Minister Krasen Kralev.

Russia will respond to Bulgaria's expulsion of diplomats in accordance with the principle of reciprocity, Federation Council Deputy Speaker Konstantin Kosachev said Monday.
