Rural agriculture program supports reverse migration

With the backing of the IPARD Program — co-financed by Türkiye and the European Union (EU) and managed by the Agriculture and Rural Development Support Institution (TKDK), the competent body under the Agriculture and Forestry Ministry — Turkish citizens living abroad have constructed 128 facilities, each with costs ranging from 33 to 277 million Turkish Liras ($1 million to $8.4 million).

Türkiye ranks first in Europe in agricultural income

Türkiye ranked first in Europe and was among the top 10 countries in the world last year in terms of agricultural income generated, Agriculture and Forestry Minister İbrahim Yumaklı has said.

Türkiye's agricultural income amounted to $68.5 billion in 2025, said Yumaklı, citing data from the UN's Food and Agriculture Organization and the World Bank.

Discovery of endangered leopard barbel fish hailed in Türkiye

Türkiye on Jan. 18 hailed the unexpected sighting of the leopard barbel fish, listed as one of the most endangered in the world, in the Tigris River.

Environmentalists say the spotted carp-like fish was last seen in the wild more than a decade ago and was feared to have become extinct.

Ministry tightens inspections on illegal fishing

The Agriculture and Forestry Ministry has conducted approximately 67,000 inspections in the first half of the year as part of its campaign against illegal fishing, fining thousands of fishermen and workplaces who did not comply with the regulations.

In the first six months of 2023, the General Directorate of Fisheries and Aquaculture teams conducted 66,764 inspections.
