One dead, three wounded in shooting near Novo Mesto

Novo Mesto – One person died and three were wounded in a shooting near Brezje, an informal Roma settlement in Novo Mesto area, on Saturday night. The suspect was arrested this morning, Novo Mesto police said.

The suspect, a 25-year-old man, appears to have shot dead a 22-year-old man from Novo Mesto along the main road between Mirna Peč and Novo Mesto.

Assumption celebrated at churches dedicated to Virgin Mary

Ljubljana – Christians are celebrating the Feast of the Assumption on Monday, the most important and one of the oldest Church holidays dedicated to Mary, and a national holiday in Slovenia. Bishops will say Mass at the country’s main pilgrimage sites, as well as at the many churches dedicated to Virgin Mary around the country.

Ljubljana – Statistics show that there are around 6,040 settlements of various types in Slovenia, and some of their names have a very positive or rather negative connotation, such as “party” or “injustice”. However, there are also towns named Rome, Vienna and Jerusalem, although much much smaller than the world’s eponymous cities.

Ljubljana archbishop urges mutual respect on Assumption Day

Brezje – Marking Assumption of Mary, Archbishop of Ljubljana Stanislav Zore called for open-mindedness, acceptance and mutual respect as he said mass at Brezje on Sunday. The government described Assumption of Mary as a holiday of hope and faith in the fullness of life, wishing everyone peace on this day.
