Four solo artists shortlisted for Britain’s Turner Prize

Four artists commended for their solo exhibitions are competing for the UK's Turner Prize for contemporary art this year, Tate Britain, which organizes the award, announced on April 12.

The 2022 shortlist contrasts with last year's line-up, which for the first time saw five artist collectives vie for the prestigious, but often controversial British visual arts award.

Artwork from world's largest canvas painting sells for $62 million in Dubai

An artwork created from the world's largest canvas painting has sold for $62 million in Dubai, the second most expensive painting sold at auction by a living artist.

The original painting, "The Journey of Humanity" by British artist Sacha Jafri, holds the Guinness World Record for the largest art canvas.

Britain's Turner Prize cancelled, 10 artists to share grants

London's Tate Museum on May 26 cancelled this year's Turner Prize because of the coronavirus and said it will award 10,000 grants to 10 deserving British artists instead.    

Judges would have traditionally announced a short-list for the prestigious competition this month and revealed the winner -- and awarded an accompanying 25,000 ($30,800, 28,100 euro) prize -- in December.    

A Picture of Banksy Was Sold For a Record Amount of Money

A painting called 'Devolved Parliament'  by anonymous artist Banksy was sold for a record $ 12 million.

She portrays the British Parliament with chimpanzees instead of politicians. The painting was auctioned after a 13-minute bid between 10 buyer candidates and improved the record for the most expensive work by a street artist.

Sutra | Athens | September 3-4

"Sutra" is a collaborative performance by choreographer Sidi Labri Cherkaoui, artist Antony Gormley and 19 Buddhist monks, honoring an ancient kung fu tradition with a musical score by Polish composer Szymon Brzoska. The multinational production, which will go on stage at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC), was commissioned by the Sadler's Wells Theatre in London.
