Politico writes about “Slovenia’s war on the media”

Brussels – The Brussels-based web portal Politico has published an extensive analysis of the media situation in Slovenia based on talks with Slovenian journalists and foreign observers, in which it says that “Prime Minister Janez Janša’s attacks create climate of fear”. It adds that Janša is waging a big campaign against journalists he does not like.

RTV Slovenija boss challenging successor’s appointment in court

Ljubljana – Public broadcaster RTV Slovenija director general Igor Kadunc has filed a lawsuit over the appointment of Andrej Grah Whatmough as his successor. One of the key requirements for the post, a minimum of three years of managing major administrative systems, has not been observed in the appointment procedure, Kadunc said Thursday.

Three interested in job of RTV Slovenija boss

Ljubljana – Three candidates have applied for the job of RTV Slovenija director general as the public broadcaster’s incumbent Igor Kadunc’s four-year term expires in late April. The programme council is expected to discuss them on 25 January. To be appointed, the candidate will have to receive at least 15 of the 29 councillor votes.

CoE commissioner calls on Janša to reintroduce STA funding

Strasbourg – Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights Dunja Mijatović wrote a letter to Prime Minister Janez Janša on Monday, urging him to immediately reintroduce funding to the Slovenian Press Agency (STA). She expressed concern that the suspension of public funding could jeopardise the agency’s future.
